Buying a wedding dress in Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe is a French overseas department in the Caribbean, and Lunéria is a bridal boutique in Baie-Mahault — a few minutes from Pointe-à-Pitre and from Pôle Caraïbes international airport. We fit brides by private appointment, one at a time.

We work with two kinds of clients: brides who live on the island, and couples flying in for a destination wedding. The second group has a specific problem — limited time on the ground — and we have built our process around it.

If you are flying in

Tell us your travel dates when you book. We compress what normally takes months into the days you actually have:

• Before you arrive — a video call to discuss your date, your venue and your measurements, so we can pre-select dresses that are physically in the shop.
• Day one — private fitting, 90 minutes, one bride at a time.
• Day two or three — alterations fitted in our on-site workshop.
• Before you leave — final fitting and collection.

This only works with dresses already in stock. If you want a made-to-order gown, plan eight to twelve months, as anywhere else.

What works in tropical heat

This is the advice European bridal shops never give, because they never need to.

• Silk chiffon, light crêpe, fine lace over tulle — they move with the air and survive a full day outdoors.
• Unlined structured bodices — support comes from the boning, not from layers of fabric.
• Avoid mikado, heavy satin, full linings and multiple petticoats.
• Be careful with long trains on sand or grass — humidity sets stains fast.
